Curtain Cleaning

We are able to clean all types of curtains, swags, tails and pelmets.
We utilise several cleaning methods.

On-site curtain cleaning
There are 2 on-site methods
The first of these methods involves the thorough power vacuuming of curtaining followed by the spray wiping of the fabric side and return leading edges with a dry cleaning solution (this is generally part of a spring/after-builders clean).

The second on-site method again involves the thorough power vacuuming of the curtaining followed by the full dry cleaning of the fabric. For this we use an on-site portable dry cleaning machine.

Off site curtain cleaning
We also provide a complete off-site dry cleaning service which involves the taking down of the curtains, pelmets, swags, taking them away, dry cleaning them in our specialised vats, returning, re-hanging and dressing them. These vats are capable of dry cleaning the most delicate of fabrics including antique silks and chintzes. Subsequent fabric protection will help curtains retain that ‘newly cleaned’ look. Great care is taken with off site cleaning but certain problems may arise from wear and tear.

Some problems that may be encountered are:-

Fading
Sunlight, atmospheric condition, heat, damp and cold can react on colours fading some fabrics. Once the surface soiling has been removed these differences may be highlighted.

Linings
Linings and nets take the brunt of UV light and in time this will weaken the fibres and may result in shredded linings/net curtains after cleaning. This is because the weight of the curtain increases 6 fold in the dry cleaning drum when immersed in solvent. Even the slightest unchecked weakness in fibres with even the gentlest agitation and increased weight can results in fabric degradation. Unless curtains appear in a very weak state it is not always possible to forsee this. It may be possible to arrange a re-lining service if the need arises. Thermal/blackout linings can cause problems when weakened as they delaminate.

Stains/marks
Stains may be set or highlighted after cleaning due to conditions prevailing during use

Relaxation/shrinkage
This may be seen during a first clean or wash. This is the result of spinning and weaving tensions (British Standards does not allow for relaxation or shrinkage)
